European Perovskite PV Projects Join Forces for the Future of Solar Energy

At EU PVSEC 2025, nine cutting-edge Horizon Europe projects will showcase their collective efforts to transform Europe’s photovoltaic landscape through perovskite solar technologies. Together, these initiatives address efficiency, scalability, sustainability, and industrialisation – paving the way for a competitive and clean European solar industry. Together, these projects represent Europe’s most ambitious push yet towards next-generation perovskite photovoltaics – delivering efficiency, sustainability, and industrial leadership in renewable energy.

DIAMOND – Ultra-Stable Perovskite Solar Cells

DIAMOND unites 12 partners from 7 countries to develop ultra-stable, efficient, and low-cost PSCs. With novel encapsulation and recyclable designs, the project targets record efficiencies and EU-based manufacturing to support Europe’s net-zero goals.

PEARL – Flexible Carbon-Based Perovskite PV

PEARL focuses on carbon-electrode perovskite cells, cutting costs and emissions while boosting stability. It develops flexible, scalable PSCs for emerging markets such as BIPV, VIPV, and IoT, targeting >25% efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

LUMINOSITY – Scaling Flexible Perovskite PV

With 15 partners from 9 countries, LUMINOSITY drives industry-ready manufacturing of flexible PSCs. Using sustainable, earth-abundant materials, the project strengthens Europe’s industrial ecosystem in line with the Green Deal and REPowerEU.

VALHALLA – Solvent-Free Perovskite Modules

VALHALLA develops eco-designed, solvent-free PSC modules with >26% efficiency and >25 years lifetime. Bringing together 12 partners, the project ensures circularity and recyclability, building a pathway to a European industrial base for PV.

Smartline PV – Lead-Free Tin Perovskite Photovoltaics

Smartline PV advances tin-halide perovskite solar cells with roll-to-roll fabrication. Targeting >22% efficiency and an 80% reduction in production energy, the project strengthens the European PV value chain with sustainable, lead-free technology.

LAPERITIVO – Scalable Semi-Transparent Perovskite PV

LAPERITIVO develops large-area bifacial semi-transparent PSC modules with efficiencies up to 22% (opaque) and 20% (semi-transparent). With 22 partners from Europe and Africa, it pioneers green solvents, circularity, and agrivoltaic applications, and explores up to 5 GW pilot-scale capacity.

SuPerTandem – High-Efficiency Perovskite Tandem PV

SuPerTandem develops 2-terminal perovskite tandem cells and modules on flexible foils, targeting >30% efficiency and scalable roll-to-roll production. Its 15 partners focus on earth-abundant materials, circularity, and lightweight applications in BIPV, VIPV, and agrivoltaics.

TRIUMPH – Next-Gen Triple Junction PV

TRIUMPH pioneers perovskite-perovskite-silicon triple junction (3J) solar cells, aiming for >33% efficiency and large-area modules. As the first European 3J consortium, it prepares technology for TW-scale deployment, with sustainability and resource efficiency at its core.

NEXUS – Stable Perovskite-Si Tandem PV

NEXUS unites 13 partners from 9 countries to develop stable 2-terminal perovskite-silicon tandem cells and modules. With >33% efficiency targets and solvent-free eco-design, the project advances circular, scalable PV manufacturing for Europe’s energy future.
